Understanding Piezo Buzzer Driver Circuit and Its Working in Detail



A piezo buzzer is an electrical device which is usually used for producing a sound of a particular frequency. It is connected to a DC power source and works when the voltage applied to it exceeds a certain threshold level. The piezo buzzer driver circuit is used to amplify this voltage and produce louder sound from the buzzer. This article will discuss in detail about the wiring diagrams, components, and working of a piezo buzzer driver circuit.



Components and Wiring Diagrams of Piezo Buzzer Driver Circuit



The electrical components required for the construction of a Piezo buzzer driver circuit are a power source, a transistor, a diode, a potentiometer, two resistors, and a piezo buzzer. The wiring diagram of the circuit is shown below:

In the above wiring diagram, the positive terminal of the power source is connected to the collector terminal of the transistor. The emitter terminal is connected to the diode and the resistor. The cathode of the diode is connected to the negative terminal of the power source. The potentiometer is connected between the collector and the emitter terminals of the transistor. Finally, the piezo buzzer is connected to the junction of the diode and the resistor.



Working of Piezo Buzzer Driver Circuit



The Piezo buzzer driver circuit works when the voltage applied to it exceeds a certain threshold level. When the voltage is applied to the circuit, current starts flowing through the transistor. This current flow is then adjusted by adjusting the potentiometer. The current then flows through the diode and the resistor and is amplified by the transistor. This amplified current is then used to drive the piezo buzzer and produce sound.



The voltage at which the piezo buzzer starts producing sound is known as the threshold voltage. It is usually around 5V but may vary from one buzzer to another. The voltage can be adjusted using the potentiometer. The higher the voltage, the louder the sound produced by the buzzer.



Advantages of Piezo Buzzer Driver Circuit

Disadvantages of Piezo Buzzer Driver Circuit

  • The sound produced by the buzzer may be distorted when the voltage exceeds the threshold level.



The Piezo buzzer driver circuit is an important component of many electronic devices. It can be used to produce sound of a specific frequency and can be adjusted using the potentiometer. However, it has some limitations such as the varying threshold voltage for different buzzers and the possibility of sound distortion when the voltage exceeds the threshold level.
